BLACK LAKE — Elizabeth “Betty” L. Hubbard, age 77, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Claxton-Hepburn Hospital.

Betty was born on June 24, 1934 in Russell to the late Howard and Zelda (Lawson) Coloton. She graduated from Knox Memorial High School and from the Ogdensburg Business School.

She married Roy Samuel Hubbard, Sr. in September of 1983. Mr. Hubbard passed away on March 23, 2005. Two previous marriages ended in divorce. Betty grew up in Russell, has lived in Gouverneur and Syracuse, but has called Black Lake her home for 24 years.

Betty had worked for the Farm Bureau Office testing milk for the dairy herd improvement lab. She worked in the food service industry for the Gouverneur Bowling Alley, the Log Cabin Restaurant and for Palms Restaurant, all in Gouverneur. Later, she was a Nutritional Site Manager in Potsdam for the Office of the Aging.

Mrs. Hubbard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing poker with her family. Time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was precious to her. In her free time, Betty attended any auction she could find and loved dragging “new” things home.

Her survivors include five children; Sherry and husband Robert Lytle of Heuvelton, Cathy and husband Michael Thompson of Baden, PA, Teresa and husband Joseph Hemingway of Syracuse, Roy Samuel Hubbard, Jr. and wife Chris of York, PA, Amber Lyn Kelly of Elbridge; and three brothers, John and wife Janet Coloton of DeKalb Junction, Robert “Tom” and wife Patti Coloton of Oswego, and Michael and wife Pam Coloton of Buchanan, VA. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her close friend, Dan Bickelhaupt, and her nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by a brother, James Coloton and two sisters, Doris Lamm and Anne Coller.

Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center, 5 Lyon Place, Ogdensburg NY 13669 or to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US HWY 11, Potsdam NY 13676.
