Lucille Hewlett

CANTON – Lucille “Tealie” Hewlett, 92, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012, at Fletcher-Allen Medical Center in Burlington, VT.

Calling hours are Saturday, July 14th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm with a funeral service at 2:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Hermon with pastor Pete Lawless officiating and burial in Hermon Cemetery.

Lucille was born April 3, 1920 in South Russell, the daughter of Urbane and Mable VanSant Pike. She attended rural schools in DeGrasse.

Tealie married Leo Hewlett on December 3, 1955 in Brownville. Mr. Hewlett, a retired employee of General Motors, passed away May 13, 1992.

Tealie was a homemaker, a foster care mother to many children, and was employed at Chaney Dining Hall at Canton ATC. Tealie enjoyed gambling, playing bingo and cards, knitting, listening to music, and spending time at the family camp on Boyd Pond where she was fond of fishing.

Tealie is survived by two sons Stephen Hewlett, Robert Hewlett and his wife Mary, all of Russell, two daughters Constance Mabel Whiteford and her husband Robert, Vivian Lee Warren, all of Hermon, a son-in-law Dennis Warren of DeGrasse, 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 14 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers Arland Pike of Potsdam, John Pike of Russell, Richard Pike of Canton, a sister Geraldine Manning of Russell, several nieces and nephews. Tealie is predeceased by her husband Leo, a daughter Jeanette Marie Sharpstene, two sisters Vivian Pike and Louise Chase.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley or Russell or Canton Methodist Church Meal Fund.
