Lois Chase Sandberg

April 3, 1927 – Dec. 8, 2012

Private family services will be held for Lois Chase Sandberg, 85, of North Bend at Sunset Memorial Park. Cremation rites were held at Ocean View Crematory in Coos Bay.

Lois was born April 3, 1927, in Russell, N.Y., the daughter of Clyde and Myrtle (McKee) Chase. She died Dec. 8, 2012, in North Bend.

Lois graduated from Knox Memorial High School in Russell in 1944. After graduation she worked for Dr. Wiseman and later for Leaderle Laboratories in Pearl River, N.Y. In February 1951 she joined the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in November 1955 with the rank of staff sergeant.

Lois married Dick Sandberg March 19, 1955, at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, Texas. She was a 36-year member of Bay Area American Legion, Post 34 Auxiliary, past president and served as secretary for 14 years. She also was secretary of Coos Bay Emblem Club for many years.

Lois is survived by her husband, Dick of North Bend; daughters, Laurie and husband, C.L. Gatzke of Bremerton, Wash., and Gale and husband, Gene O’Neil of North Bend; son, Rick and wife, Joan Sandberg of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Tripp and wife, Corrina Jones, Josh and wife, Carlie Jones and Brandon and wife, Ashley O’Neil, Makayla and Paige Sandberg; and three great-grandchildren, Amy and Mya Jones and Gage O’Neil.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Bay Area Post 34, P.O. Box 234, North Bend, OR 97459.
