R. David Hewlett

Mr. R. David Hewlett 81, Pinehurst NC passed away in Ann Arbor Michigan on March 27th, 2014. His death was a result of complications following surgery at Moore Regional hospital Southern Pines NC. A service and family gathering will be held in the Spring following burial in North Russell cemetery. The date has yet to be selected.

David was born March 4, 1933 the son of Stanley and Grace (Heffron) Hewlett, in Russell, NY.  He graduated from Knox Memorial High School, Russell, NY in 1951.

David joined the army infantry in November of 1956 and was assigned to C Company 510th armored infantry battalion in Ft. Hood Texas, where he was a vehicle and tank mechanic. He was stationed in Germany for 1 year foreign service and was honorably discharged in November of 1958.

Following his military service he worked as a hydraulic engineer, with Weatherhead, Sanders, Fluid Controls, and Sperry Vickers. He spent his retirement years playing tennis with good friends in Pinehurst NC.

He is survived by his daughters Carol & (David), Grace & (Keith), and 2 grandchildren Caitlin and Kelly. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn, brothers, Leo, James, Mark, George, Richard, and Charles, and two sisters, Helen and Lorna.
