Wendell D. Whitmarsh

wwhitmarshGraveside service with Military Honors for Wendell D. Whitmarsh, 76, of Darien Center and formerly of Russell, will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Pleasant Mound Cemetery, Clare.

Wendell died on September 16, 2014.

Wendell was born, April 14, 1938 in Russell, the son of the late, David and Marion (Colton) Whitmarsh. He graduated from Knox-Memorial Central School in 1957 and enlisted in the US Navy, serving until 1961. Wendell then worked in Italy for 18 months and later for the printing company in Gouverneur.

In June of 1966 he married Marline Newvine in Hermon. The couple then moved to Darien Center where they raised their four wonderful children and Wendell worked for the Western Off Set Printing Company. He became wheelchair bound in 1987 due to Multiple Sclerosis.

Wendell was a wonderful man, who was loved by many. He liked to hunt, enjoyed wildlife, his homemade donuts and spending time with his family and friends.

Wendell is survived by his four children; Wendy L; Tammy L; Casey L. (Kathryn) and Joey L. (Stephanie) Whitmarsh; by grandchildren, E.J. (Linsey) Scroger, Michael Scroger, Ann Marie Whitmarsh, Joey Whitmarsh, Reilly Abrams and Lena Whitmarsh and great-grandfather to Mikey Scroger.  Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, James and Betty Whitmarsh Sr. of Clare; Herbert Whitmarsh of Cohoes; Flossie and Richard Gray of Canton; Monroe (Vernon) and Helen Whitmarsh of Perry; Donald and Sue Whitmarsh of Unadilla; John and Christine Whitmarsh of Russell and Thomas and Kathy Whitmarsh of Canton and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his loving wife Marline and by a brother Morris who died shortly after birth on November 27, 1941.
