Teresa J. Pomerville

STAR LAKE – Teresa J. Pomerville, age 85, of Star Lake, passed away at home on Monday, October 08, 2012 under the loving care of her family and Hospice.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. Her funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Decker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Hubert’s Cemetery in Star Lake. Teresa was born on February 17, 1927 in Russell, NY to the late Hugh and Viola (Kenyon) Kelly. She graduated from Knox Memorial School in 1943 and then went on to graduate from Potsdam Normal School in 1946. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1947 and in later years she received her Masters degree. She married Raymond Joseph Pomerville on December 27, 1947 at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church. Raymond passed away on February 23, 2002.

Teresa was a teacher at Clifton-Fine Central School for 39 years retiring in 1985. She had started teaching at a one room school house in Star Lake teaching 1st and 2nd grade then taught in a one room school house in Newton Falls teaching 6th grade. At Clifton-Fine Central School she taught 4th and 6th grade and later became the reading and math resource teacher.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary at St. Hubert; a former member and charter member of the Clifton-Fine Arena; Charter member of the Cranberry Lake Library; a member of the St. Hubert’s Catholic Church; a former member of the Rosary Society and she also belonged to the St. Hubert’s Choir and the Boyd Pond Association. She enjoyed sewing, down hill skiing, golfing, playing cards, traveling and reading. She greatly enjoyed spending her summers at her camp on Boyd Pond.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond J. “R.J.” Pomerville and Donna (Mills) Pomerville of Rockport, MA and Patrick H. Pomerville of Queensbury, NY; a daughter, Jean Pomerville of Star Lake; a sister, Anna Marie “Ann” Hewlett of Florida; four grandsons, Ian Pomerville, Andrew Pomerville, Michael Pomerville and Christopher Pomerville.

Teresa is predeceased by her brother, Roger Kelly.
