Marian R. Porter

GOUVERNEUR – Marian R. Porter, age 81, of Gouverneur, passed away at her home on September 18, 2014 under the care of her loving family and Hospice.

There will be no services for Marian. Final arrangements are being handled by French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Marian was born on January 2, 1933 in Russell to the late Ivan and Grace (Blackmer) Gollinger. She graduated from the Knox Memorial High School and married Irvin A. Porter on July 28, 1951 in Edwards. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm in Gouverneur for many years. Mr. Porter passed away on December 2, 2006.

Marian enjoyed watching sports on television, especially hockey and baseball. She also enjoyed reading, canning and taking care of her flowers. She was a former member of the Gouverneur Ladies Rescue Squad Auxiliary, Elks Club, the Gouverneur Rod and Gun Club and the Hailesboro Home Bureau.

Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Roger Folsom of Oswegatchie; four sons, Michael and Bonnie Porter of Gouverneur, Douglas Porter of Hailesboro, Patrick and Elizabeth Porter of Mystic, CT, Christopher and Lisa Porter of Bremerton, WA; two brothers, Richard and Rex Gollinger of Russell; and three sisters, Leona Laird of Weedsport, Elaine Porter of Pierrepont, and Linda Trimm of Edwards. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband Marian is predeceased by, a son, Daniel Lee Porter; three brothers, Donald, Robert, and Bruce Gollinger; and a sister, Betty Hoyt.
