Laura M. Russell

Funeral services for Laura M. Russell, age 93 of Ogdensburg will be held on Saturday (November 1, 2014) at 2:30pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. Michael O’Donnell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ogdensburgh Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 12:00-2:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Russell passed away on Wednesday (Oct 29, 2014) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility.

Surviving is her niece Janet Corse of Massena; nephews Donald Awan & his wife Lorraine of Ogdensburg, Stewart, Steven & Vincent Gillette of Florida, Don Russell of Ogdensburg and Paul Russell of Massachusetts along with many great-nieces, nephews & cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Solomon, a daughter Donna, a sister Mildred Empronto and four brothers Lynn, Donald, James and Harold Gillette.

Laura was born on June 14, 1921 in Gouverneur, NY a daughter of Lynn & Mary Jane (Johnston) Gillette. She graduated from Knox Memorial Central School in Edwards, and later married Solomon “Buster” Russell on July 22, 1939 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Kennedy officiating their marriage.

She worked at Nathan Frank’s Department Store and Frank’s Decorator Corner in Ogdensburg for 36 years and retired 1995. She was a member and choir member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Past Matron of OES Maple City Chapter, Associate Grand Warder, a member of the 1st St. Lawrence District OES, Past President of the Ogdensburg Zonta Club in 1968 and a member of the St. Lawrence Bowling League. She enjoyed singing in the choir at church, bowling and spending time with her friends and family.
