Matthew “George” VanBrocklin

mvanbrocklinEAST FAIRFIELD, VT- Matthew “George” VanBrocklin, age 74 of East Fairfield and formerly of Russell, NY, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at North Western Medical Center in St. Albans, VT.

There will be a memorial mass on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony-St. George Catholic Church in East Fairfield, VT. with Fr. William Giroux officiating. A burial at South Russell Cemetery in South Russell, NY will be later in the spring. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Edwards, NY. Matthew was born on January 6, 1941 to the late Mason D. and Rose Ange (Girouard) VanBrocklin. He graduated from Knox Memorial Central School in 1960 and then attended University of Delhi. After college, George entered into the United States Navy in 1963 and served until his honorable discharge in 1967. After the Navy, George began working at IBM in Kingston, NY. And later transferred to IBM Burlington, Vermont until his retirement.

George enjoyed playing the guitar, piano and singing. He also loved to take walks in the woods and enjoyed drawing up blue prints for old structures.

He is survived by three brothers and their wives, Jerry and Lucretica of Lexington, VA, Phillip and Vera of DeKalb Jct., NY and Larry and Incha of Hendersonville, TN; three sisters, Helen Harmer of Ohio, Germaine Carlson of Russell, NY and Jeanette Mee of Mohave Valley, AZ; John Turgeon and good friend Tom Fonda of East Fairfield, VT and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

George is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Randy VanBrocklin.
