Robert Nagle

MASSENA — Robert G. Nagle, 58, of Bucktown Road, formerly of Gouverneur, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born September 20, 1962 in Gouverneur, NY, the son of the late Richard and Donna (Rice) Nagle Soper. He attended school and graduated from Knox Memorial Central School. Robert later joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany in the Artillery Division. He was honorably discharged after four years.

Robert worked at Gouverneur Correctional Facility for 25 years, retiring in 2014. He enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and Green Bay Packers play over the years. Robert also liked to hunt and fish in Edwards and Macomb and especially loved the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his wife Diana; four children, Dylan Nagle and companion Cortney Chartier of Gouverneur, Jenna and husband Joshua Tarkowski of Gouverneur, Shannon Wilson and fiancé Nathan Wells of Massena, Kristy Wilson and fiancé Jason Mansour of Binghamton; six grandchildren, Addison and Suttyn Tarkowski, Aden and Harrison Wilson, Jordan Wilson and Alexis Rafter; five brothers, Richard Nagle, Jr., Mark Rice, Scott Soper, Steven Soper and Charles Rice; four sisters, Stacia Kroniser, Michelle Hatch, Catherine Webb and Dawn Randall as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two sons, Robert and Richard Nagle; a step farther, Stewart Soper and two brothers, Sherwood and Sherman Soper.

Ricky & Lena Gollinger

Ricky A. Gollinger, 64 and wife, Lena A. Gollinger, 62, died on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse where they had been transported following a house fire.

Ricky was born April 30, 1956 in Pierrepont, a son of the late William R. and Lillian G. (Porter) Gollinger. Following graduation, Ricky joined the Marines and served his country from 1974 to 1979. After receiving an Honorable discharge, Ricky began working at Potsdam Specialty Paper Company, from which he had recently retired. He also took part in the family logging and firewood business. Ricky liked spending time with family, drinking coffee, he enjoyed watching sports and played softball for several years and was the family handyman.

Lena was born May 8, 1958 in Canton, a daughter of the late Arthur and Patricia (Coffey) Carr-Birch. Following high school graduation, Lena began working in the cafeteria at Canton Central School and had planned to retire this June after 30 + years. Lena enjoyed attending church on Sunday’s, making cakes for all occasions and loved being a grandma. She and Ricky enjoyed quality time together at the casino.

The couple is survived by their five children; Robert (Amber) Gollinger, Adam (Christina Franklin) Gollinger, Matthew (Keisha Jandreau) Gollinger, Angela (Micky Morehouse) Gollinger, Alan (Marie Lemieux) Gollinger; grandchildren, Danika, Caleb, Kinsleigh and MaKenna, Hailey, Hanna, Rayonna, Nathan, Natalie, Star-Lynne Arquitte, Camden, Kody and Mickyle Morehouse; and a great-granddaughter, Nova.

Ricky is survived by nine siblings; Gary (Shirley) Gollinger, Steve (Kim) Gollinger, Tom (Robin) Gollinger, Bonnie (Richard) Ashley, Kevin (Tammie) Gollinger Cindy (Reggie) Murdie, Scott (Angela) Gollinger, Jill (Rory) Mouthrop and Janet (David) Church.

A brother, Jeff Gollinger and sister, Donna Mae predecease him.

Lena is survived by five siblings; Pamela Gotham, Michael (Cathy) Carr, Randy (Dawn) Carr, Christine Carr and Shari Carr.

Two brothers, Cleo and Terry Carr predeceased her.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton at 1:30 p.m.

Phillip Coller

Phillip Ceylon Coller, 67, of County Route 25, Russell died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his home.

Phil was born on September 1, 1948 at home in Russell, a son of the late Anne Coloton-Coller and Carl W. Coller. He attended Knox Memorial Central School and graduated in 1967. He then attended Canton ATC for two years. On October 11, 1969, Phil married Carol Mackin at the Russell Methodist Church.

Phil was a Dairy Farmer all of his life, working with his family on the family farm in Russell. He drove bus for Edwards-Knox Central School retiring after twenty-nine years.

Surviving are his wife Carol of Russell, his father Carl of Maplewood Campus, two daughters, Jennifer A. Benson of Russell and Christy L. Tupper and husband Neil of Russell; one brother, Lynn Coller and wife Linda of Russell; three sisters Carole Jenne and husband Larry of Canton, Tina Coller of DeKalb Junction, Gina Caldwell and husband Ray of Canton. He will also be greatly missed by three grandchildren, Holden and Grayson Tupper and Avery Benson of Russell, as well as three nephews; Connor, Ryan and Jaden Caldwell and a niece Brooke Jenne of Canton.

Phil enjoyed spending precious time with his children, grandchildren, family and his dog “Sam” ,as well as, hunting and the animals on the farm.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the family home located at 273 County Route 25, Russell, NY. His funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Russell Methodist Church with Reverend Martha Helmer officiating. His burial will be at the Hermon Cemetery in Hermon, NY.

Leona (Gollinger) Laird

Leona May Laird, 82, of Throop, died September 21, 2020 at her home. Born in Herman, NY she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Grace Blackmer Gollinger. She graduated from Russel High School and retired from Mercy Rehab where she was a nurses aid. Leona enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She is survived by six children, Grace Farrington, Donald, Timothy, Vernon, Harry and April Laird; siblings, Richard, Elaine, Linda and Rex and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Larry Matthews

Russell- Larry A. Matthews, 75, of Pyrites-Russell Road, died peacefully at his home on Monday, December 14, 2020. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 18 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. Larry was born November 30, 1945 in Canton, NY and was the son of the late Hubert and Helen (Simonds) Matthews. He graduated from Knox Memorial in 1964. A marriage to Patricia Wheeler ended in divorce. He was owner/ operator of Grasse River Asphalt and Paving, Canton which he started in the early 80’s. Previously he was a car salesman for Mace Motors, Canton and later worked in Anchorage, Alaska with his uncle Hiram Matthews at Husky Asphalt and Paving. Larry was a member of a number of clubs including Catamount Lake Hunting Club in S. Colton, Ten Point Hunting Club in Southern Tier, The Canton Club, Eagles in Port Orange. FL and Wayside and Pour Ol Satch’s Shuffleboard Teams. He was also an Honorary Member of VFW #1231, Canton and enjoyed wintering in Port Orange, FL with his companion Sandy Knowlden. Larry had several interests and hobbies including snowmobiling, deer hunting, shuffleboard, bowling, socializing and watching sports especially the Yankees and Syracuse basketball and football. He is survived by his companion Sandy Knowlden of Canton; his four children, Kathy J. Porter and companion Donald Ashlaw of Canton, Dan (Carrie) Matthews of Russell, Kimberly Matthews of Canton and Jamie (Kim) Matthews of Hermon; two sisters, Janet Burden of Roanoke, VA and Edith (Joe) Bigwarfe of Star Lake; thirteen grandchildren, Jessica Wszalek, Amanda, Brittany, Dan, Kendra, Kirstie and Miranda Matthews, Andrew and Chelsea Matthews and Dustin, Adam, Dillion and Bailey Coffey and several great-grandchildren. John Rider

John Clifford Rider passed away May 31, 2020 in Bethany, OK and lived to 89 years. He was born in Russell, New York to Albert John and Mable (Bullock) Rider. A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he worked as an electrical engineer for G.E., Honeywell and Seagate. John was a faithful member of Tulakes Baptist Church for over 50 years and was an avid fisherman.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He will be dearly missed by his 3 children, Michael and his wife Loida of OKC, David and his wife Karla of OKC, and Debra Varner and her husband Greg of Carrollton, VA; grandchildren, Isabelle Varner and John Michael Rider; 2 sisters, April Haggett and Joyce Beaudins, and 2 brothers, Jim Rider and wife Margaret, and Gary Rider and wife Martha, all of  New York.

Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon offering at the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 3, 10:00am in Bethany Cemetery.

Jeannette (VanBrocklin) Mee

Jeanette “Jan” Laura Mee, age 76, of Mohave Valley, Arizona passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Valley View Medical Center. Services are pending at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.

Jan was born on Friday, April 28, 1944 in Clare, New York to Mason and Rose’Ange VanBrocklin. Jan married Larry Mee on June 27, 1970 and they lived happily together until his passing on April 18, 1992.

Jan is survived by her five children, Jackie White and her husband Kevin, and 3 daughters, Melinda Torrealba and her husband, Juan, Halie White, and Ragan White; Robin Bilin and her partner, Cathy Drewry and Robin’s 3 children, Matthew Bilin and his wife, Katelyn, Kassidy Bilin, and Jessica Bilin and her fiance’ Matthew Zerillo; Julie Mee and her 4 children, Dalton Leatherman, Taylor Leatherman, Corey Leatherman, and BreAnna VanDusen; Phillip Mee, and his 4 children, Autumn Mee, Madison Mee, Kamiron Mee, and Britney Mee: and Brandy Mee and her partner, Stephanie Knotts and Brandy’s 4 children, Auliyah Redd and her fiancé,’ Ronell Ryland, Emanee Mee, Daesha Tramble, and Mark Tramble III; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Phillip VanBrocklin, Larry VanBrocklin, and Jerry VanBrocklin; and sisters, Helen Harmer and Sue Carlson.

Gilbert Kinney

Gilbert Lionel Kinney, 66, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020 at his home in Rock Springs, Wyoming with his wife by his side. He was born on April 2, 1954 in Syracuse, New York, the son of Bob and Hariett Kinney. He attended high school in New York and then attended Western Wyoming Community College to receive his ASL Degree. Gilbert met Jeanette Candy Mendenhall in Lander, Wyoming. They were later married at 3 Patches in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. He was a member of the Dead Men MC Club. Gilbert loved to spend his time riding and working on motorcycles. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife Jeanette Mendenhall of Rock Springs, Wyoming; and niece Sarah Kinney of California. He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Hariett Kinney, as well as his brothers Lorne Kinney, and Gerald Kinney. Cremation will take place and private services will be held at a later date. Eric Oelschlager

Eric Oelschlager, age 55 of Johns Creek, passed away April 2, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. He was born on January 28, 1963 in Bay Shore, NY to the late Louis Anthony and Rose Marie Ann Oelschlager.

Survivors include his sisters: LouAnn Christo, Syracuse, NY, Ena (Todd) Minnick, Clifton Park, NY, Vera (Derek) Power, Syracuse, NY, brother, Louis (Robin) Oelschlager, Russell, NY; nephews, Casey Christo and Texas Minnick; nieces, Darcy Oelschlager, Kelsey Christo, Aine Power, Faith Minnick and Zoe Power; partner and love of his life for over 24 years, Christine Sobak, Alpharetta, GA; children, Kristen Poole, Alison Carmona & Joe Sobak; grandchildren, Alexys Poole, Michael Carmona, Cadence Sobak, Donovan Sobak.

Eric was known as the “Gentle giant with a huge heart” and was a lover of animals and rescuer of many. He is survived by 2 beloved pets, Hannah–lhasa apso dog & Fluff–cat. He was preceded in death by 4 pets, Rio–Quaker parrot, Patches & Taz–shih tzu dogs and Shea–Samoyed dog.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00PM, Thursday, April 5, 2018 in the chapel of SouthCare Cremation & Funeral Society, 225 Curie Drive, Suite 100, Alpharetta GA 30005. The family will receive friends from 3:00PM until the service time.

A Memorial will be held at the Family Farm in Russell, NY this summer.

Cory Moore

CANTON — CLARE – Cory Erwin Moore, 50, of 4482 CR 27, died tragically on July 5th as a result of a motor vehicle crash in the town of Sandy Creek. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 11th at 3:30PM at Moore’s Field Airport, CR 27 in the town of Clare, NY, with Rev. Thomas Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Moore Family Cemetery on the airport property. Those wishing to honor by arriving by airplane are asked to please have your plane landed and parked on the field between 2-2:30PM. As the committal service is ending, in a symbol of lifting his spirit to heaven, the planes will be asked to follow Wayne Lincoln who will be flying Cory’s Cessna 182 to lift off the runway.

Born on September 30, 1966 in Gouverneur, NY, the son of Lloyd Edward Moore and Kathryn May Wallace, Cory graduated from Knox Memorial Central School in 1985. Cory worked in Florida before returning to his roots in Northern New York. Upon his return, he worked at Jefford Steel in Potsdam. In 2005 he went to work with R.B. Lawrence Ambulance as a vehicle maintenance manager until the time of his death. A skilled mechanic with a knack for detail, Cory treated the ambulances as his own baby. He knew the “ins and outs” of each vehicle like the back of his hand. Nothing got by him.

Cory is survived by his fiancé`, Robin Lynn Selleck; four daughters, Heidi Moore, Taylor Dunbar, Darian Moore, Jazmin Lopez; and one son, Cory Moore; his mother, Kathryn of Clare; three step-daughters, Mackenzie Banks, Hayley Lamere, Betsey Banks; three step-grandchildren, Mason and Lucas Lamere and Ethan Gollinger; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Wallace (Cynthia), Edwards and Giles (Tammy Mantor), Clare; three sisters, Carlene (Cheyenne Kerr) Dowling, Oswegatchie, Ronda (Jerry) teReile of Canton, Brendalee (Chad) Emerson of Potsdam; grandchildren Chandler, Baila, Cory Robert, and Eliza; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Lloyd Moore of Clare, a St Lawrence County Legislator.

An avid NASCAR fan and hunter, Cory was a true” jack of all trades”. He was a member of AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) and the co-owner and operator of Moore’s Field Airport, airport Identifier 1E8, affectionately known as “Clare International Airport”. Cory had passed his written exam and was preparing for his check ride proficiency exam to complete his private pilot’s license. He proudly owned his dads 1968 Cessna 182. You could not have found a harder worker, or someone who was more passionate about his life and family, than Cory.

Bonnie (Guyette) Miller

RUSSELL — Bonnie Lynne Guyette Miller, 53, of County Rte 24, died Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. Please observe social distancing and wear a mask. Additional off-street parking is available behind “LUNA” at 18 Park Street.

Graveside Service will be held on Monday, September, 21 at 11:00 a.m. at North Russell Cemetery with Lay Minister Anne Davis officiating.

Bonnie was born April 6, 1967 in New Britain, CT and was a daughter of Alton “Ike” and the late Linda (Ray) Guyette. She was a 1985 graduate of Knox Memorial School in Russell and retired due to health in 2015 after 17.5 years of employment with Community Bank in Canton.

On August 3, 1985 she married Richard Miller in the Russell United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Gardner as celebrant. The couple were married 35 years.

Surviving are her father, Alton “Ike” Guyette and companion Shirley Briggs of Canton; two sisters, Robin Guyette of Russell and Michelle “Mush” Loop and husband Gary of Degrasse; step-brother, Jeffrey John Clark of Appleton, WI; and a a niece, Skyler Rae Sanford and two nephews, Alex Guyette and Allen Michael Blackmer.

Bonnie was a member of the Russell Fire Department for 17 years, an avid NASCAR fan and she enjoyed sitting by the river at “Miller Park”. She was also very fond of her dogs.

Sharry S. (Reed) Grover

Sharry S. (Reed) Grover of Arcade, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at Buffalo General Hospital at the age of 77.

She was born Nov. 28, 1943, in Russell, N.Y., a daughter of the late Leo and Vera Reed. She was a former hairdresser and had also worked at K-Mart in Lackawanna and at Sally’s Beauty Supply in Lackawanna. She enjoyed playing cards, working on puzzles, traveling, playing softball and bowling.

She is survived by her children, Steve Costanzo of North Carolina, Pam Hartfield of Cheektowaga, and Sheri-le (Jeremy) Rupp of Arcade; her siblings, Rosalle (late Alfred) Brassard of Florida and Elaine (Carol) Quick of Syracuse; also survived by five grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Hilda Reed; her former husband, Bob “Clipper” Grover as well as a niece.

Friends may call on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St. Arcade where a Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. with Deacon John Zielinski officiating. Final interment will be held at the St. Nicholas Cemetery in North Java.

Nancy (Taylor) Karpinski

Nancy Jane “Taylor” Karpinski, 80 of Oswego, NY, passed away on October 09, 2021 after a long illness. She was born on April 24, 1941 to Walter and Ruth (Davenport) Taylor. She enjoyed crafting, was known for her donuts and pierogi’s, and was greatly involved in the Boy Scout’s of America. Nancy lost count of how many children she took care of and loved between being a foster parent and a daycare owner.

She is predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Karpinski Jr., who passed in 1994.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Karpinski Brown, Kellie Karpinski Saunders, Richard (Jennifer Bagnett) Karpinski III, Kristina (Brad Jr.) Karpinski Lyboult; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers; and too many nieces and nephews to count.

Calling hours will be held from 3-5PM on October 16, 2021 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, North Syracuse. There will be a gathering following the service at Kellie Saunders home, please contact the family for the address. Please bring a dish to pass. Her ashes will be laid to rest with her husband at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Syracuse where a private burial will be held at a later date.

Pamela (Knight) Yaremko

Pamela Knight Yaremko, 66, of Bell Ground, GA and formerly of Canton and Russell, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2021 with her husband by her side after a battle with cancer.

Pam was born January 2, 1955 in Iowa, a daughter of Gene and Betty (Walz) Knight. Pam graduated from Knox-Memorial High School in Russell in 1973. She worked as a secretary in a law firm in Canton before moving out west eventually landing in Denver, CO where she met and married her husband, John Yaremko. The couple lived in Englewood, CO for many years before retiring and moving to Ball Ground, Georgia where they have lived the last three years.

Pam is survived by her husband, John and by a sister, Debbie & Joe White of Russell and by several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Gene and Betty Knight and by a brother, Gene (Pat) Knight, who passed in November of 2020.
